The Brooklyn Routes to School Coalition has followed the steps as outlined by the National Center for Safe Routes to Schools to create the travel plan (linked below). These steps include planning for the “Five E’s” of Safe Routes to Schools, including Education, Engineering, Encouragement, Enforcement, and Evaluation.
Please click the link to read the completed Travel Plan completed in 2010. This travel plan was used to write for the non-infrastructure projects planned for the 2012-2013 school year. The non-infrastructure projects include the development of the Walking School Bus, Walking Wednesdays, Providing Biking and Walking Equipment to Students, Enhancing Safety Patrol Safety Equipment, Continuing the Police Bike Patrols along identified routes, and promotional activities to inform the school community about the emphasis on improving the routes to safely bike and walk to school. Click here to read about the bike patrol, which kicked off the fall of 2011. Click the Events page to learn about campaigns and events that will be included in this project.
